Homemade Rose-Infused Oil

Homemade Rose-Infused Oil

Roses are divine. They offer so much to us and have been used for thousands of years in delightful cooking recipes, calming aromatherapy forms, healing herbal remedies and soothing skincare treatments. Metaphysically, roses are associated with the planet Venus, renown for their beauty and affinity with the feminine. They connect us to our heart chakra, infusing feelings of self-love, compassion and unconditional love into our spirit.

What are the benefits of rose-infused oil?

  • Anti-inflammatory properties help to reduce irritation, redness and dryness. Inflamed skin may be the cause of so many skin conditions, such as acne, rosacea and textured skin, therefore using a gentle yet oil infusion is the ideal way to treat it.
  • These healing properties are what provide the rose with its skin-brightening benefits too. For this reason, it is often used in remedies and treatments to improve uneven skin tones and hyperpigmentation. One of my favourite things about using the rose in skincare is how effective it is at smoothing, softening and moisturising the skin. It's full of helpful vitamins and antioxidants that help to fight free radical damage and restore skin health.
  • The rose also has anti-bacterial properties that help to keep the complexion clear and cleansed without harshly stripping away necessary oils or damaging the pH of the skin.
  • Roses are packed with lots of powerful antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that support skin health and keep it well nourished.
  • This rose-infused oil is also great to apply in your hair as a hair oil or treatment to improve the moisture of the hair and condition of the scalp.

But how easy is it to make?

Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • Organic rose petals. washed and dried (ensure they are dried to prevent any water from the fresh petals spoiling the oil)
  • Carrier oil of your choice (I used almond)
  • Jar or container to infuse the oil
  • Strainer to strain the petals once it has infused

Note: There are no necessary measurements for this recipe, as you just need to add the amount of oil that fits the container of your choice.

How To:

  1. Place the petals into the jar until the jar is 1/2 or 3/4 way full.
  2. Pour your oil over the petals, ensuring they are well coated and completely covered by the oil.
  3. Secure the airtight lid and leave in a cool, dark place to infuse for 2-3 weeks. The longer the infusion time, the more stronger the extract will be infused into the oil. Be sure to label the jar and shake it once every few days to help the infusion.
  4. Once infusion time is up, strain the petals from the oil and your oil is ready for use!

It really is that easy. You could use your rose-infused oil for so many things, such as body oil, massage oil, lip oil, hair oil, bath oil, soothing oil compress, the list goes on! You could also use it as an ingredient for other types of recipes, such as lip balms, soaps, body butters or other kinds of oil blends. The options are endless. Nourishing your skin with the healing power of the beautiful rose is a wonderful way to incorporate natural, holistic goodness into your self-care rituals.
