Now, what about the rich history of this luxurious treasure?
History
Saffron’s origins can be traced to the sun-drenched plains of ancient Persia, where it was revered not only as a culinary treasure but also as a symbol of wealth and luxury. The ancient Egyptians, known for their opulence and advanced beauty rituals, used saffron in their perfumes and as an offering to the gods.
As the centuries rolled on, saffron spread across the globe. Saffron is believed to have been introduced to the Indian subcontinent in the 5th century BC! There, it became intertwined with spirituality, featured in sacred ceremonies, rituals, and offerings. To this day, the vibrant threads are woven into the heart of Indian culture, symbolising purity and sanctity. The Greeks used it as a dye for royal garments, while the Romans mixed it into their lavish feasts.
