Calendula & Marigold: Asteraceae

Calendula & Marigold: Asteraceae

The calendula flower, also known as pot marigold, common marigold, pot bloom, Mary bud and Summer's Bride is a wonderful flower used in many medicinal, devotional, spiritual and skincare practices for thousands of years.

It has a divinely vibrant orange tone, which is why this flower is so strongly associated with solar energies, the solar plexus, the sacral chakra and the element of fire. The crystals associated with this flower are amber, citrine and jasper. Due to these strong energies, a lot of the metaphysical associations of calendula are related to insight, truth, success, communication, protection, receptiveness and clarity. This is why in many flower essences this particular flower is used to develop intimacy, vulnerability, heal karmic wounds and for grounding.

Also a member of the Daisy family, marigolds are commonly used in worship and sacred rituals or ceremonies, and have been for thousands of years. Marigolds carry deep spiritual significance across diverse cultures. They are revered for their protective qualities, shielding against negative energies and bringing blessings to homes and gardens. In Mexican traditions, marigolds play a central role in honouring the departed during the Day of the Dead festivities, guiding souls back to the realm of the living with their vibrant colours and fragrant blooms. Symbolising abundance and prosperity, marigolds are believed to attract good fortune and financial success when planted in gardens or homes. In Hindu rituals, marigolds are symbols of devotion and purity, often used as offerings to express dedication to the divine. Radiating with the warmth of the sun, marigolds embody vitality and joy, with their cheerful yellow and orange hues inspiring feelings of happiness and optimism. Together, these spiritual associations weave a beautiful tapestry of protection, remembrance, prosperity, devotion, and vitality embraced by cultures worldwide.
